Featuring a rich blend of winter spices combined with the diverse produce of the season such as cranberries, pomegranate and citrus fruits, Bob’s Winter Bitters has the ability to transform everyday cocktail and culinary recipes into winter classics.

Enhancing their natural warmth with a spiced, fruited complexity, Bob’s Winter Bitters add seasonal depth to bourbon, cognac and rum whilst pairing equally well with fig-based liqueurs. A dash or two offers a simple but effective serve for an Old Fashioned, Manhattan or a Midwinter Boulevardier. Hot beverages are taken to another level with its inclusion in hot toddies, mulled wine and cider chai.

For a lighter, non-alcoholic beverage, a small dash of Bob’s Winter Bitters can be quietly comforting in a simple apple or elderflower juice. The spice, citrus and herbal depth work nicely with the sharp tartness of cranberry-based drinks and alcohol-free mulled punch benefits from an infusion of rich spice.

Culinary uses are many and varied all year round but come into their own during the festive season. Drizzle a little over a steamed pudding straight from the heat, allowing the bitters to sink in and deepen the flavour. Or simply add it to your breakfast marmalade to elevate the familiar into something more considered.

Flavour Profile

  • Appearance: Clear deep mahogany
  • Aroma: Scents of Christmas cake fruits and spices with subtle roasted wood character
  • Taste: Immediate citrus - orange pith - bitterness followed by warming ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg layered over dark molasses and marzipan-like sweetness
  • Aftertaste: Dry black tea astringency with a lingering citrus peel, winter spice and a woody-bitter backbone with faint hints of tonka spiciness

From a culinary perspective…

Winter bitters are delicious drizzled over fruitcake as an alternative to traditional spirits, adding warmth and complexity. A few drops add an extra layer of spice when stirred through a warm custard for Treacle Parkin or incorporated into the brandy butter served with fruit mince tarts. A full-bodied cheeseboard benefits from a delicious Spiced Cranberry Paste (similar to quince paste) or, for a simple but effective use, add a few drops to give a festive lift to a plate of porridge.
