Bob’s Orange & Mandarin Bitters unites vibrant, zesty orange with the softer, more delicate character of mandarin, creating one of the most versatile and sought after citrus bitters.
Bob added mandarin to his orange bitters to make them unique and bring more complexity with a hint of spice which provides a fresh, bitter-sweet flavour quite distinctive from other orange bitters.
Both orange and mandarin belong to the Rutaceae family, yet each offers its own unique charm. Oranges, from the Citrus sinensis species, are known for their invigorating zest and tangy freshness. Mandarins, from the Citrus reticulata species, bring a sweeter, more floral leaning aroma and a softer citrus character.
Nutritious and wonderfully versatile, both fruits lend themselves naturally to food and drink. This aromatic tincture captures their vibrancy, offering refreshing citrus notes while harmonising sweetness and acidity in recipes.
Created in 2007 as an extension of Bob’s original range, Bob’s Orange & Mandarin Bitters was developed following a thoughtful suggestion from our good friend, Simon Difford of Difford’s Guide. It has since become a staple for those seeking refined citrus complexity.
Perfect for a simple G&T, this little gem heightens the flavour profile of a French75, brightens a tequila or white rum and adds lift to a Negroni. Its citrus freshness is a welcome companion to an Old Fashioned, while a Gin Martini becomes a more aromatic, heightened experience.
Low or no alcohol serves also benefit from a few dashes. Orange bitters season mocktails beautifully and adds crisp citrus notes to sodas, spritzes and tonics. It complements ginger beer particularly well, introducing a bright, zesty top note that enhances the warmth of the ginger.
Bob’s Orange & Mandarin Bitters offers limitless possibilities in the kitchen, enriching both savoury and sweet dishes. From a simple vinaigrette to citrus forward desserts, its versatility shines.
Use orange bitters to highlight the citrus element of a ceviche, add a zesty lift to miso dressed salmon or introduce complexity to marinades for pork, duck or vegetables. In sweet creations, it brings bright citrus notes to carrot muffins, gingerbread or spiced biscuits. It adds freshness to crème fraîche and whipped cream, and deepens the flavour of sorbets and panna cotta.
Fill cocktail shaker with ice and add Vermouth, Gin and Bob’s Bitters. Stir for thirty seconds then strain into a glass tumbler, keeping the ice back. Then drop three ice cubes into the glass, and garnish with a fresh orange slice

Aromas of freshly scratched mandarin zest with the bittersweet flavour of caramelised Seville oranges and a trace of warming spice. A bitter zest finish that lingers.

Bob’s Orange & Mandarin Bitters is a good place to start; it’s particularly tasty and makes an interesting change from a standard orange bitters.
