Bob uses toasted coriander seeds and fresh coriander leaves to create a unique flavour profile.

Coriander or, to use its scientific name, Coriandrum sativum is an aromatic herb in the Apiaceae family of plants. The seeds and leaves come from the same plant, however, bear little resemblance in flavour or aroma. Famed for its health benefits and used extensively in many cuisines, this simple product is extremely versatile.

The gentle warmth and light green, herbaceous undertones of the coriander leaf are rounded by the subtle earthiness and slightly toasted, bittersweet finish of the coriander seeds.

As one of the key botanicals found in London Dry Gin, coriander helps to lighten the heavier, pine-forward character of juniper. The floral notes create a natural binder for the citrus and earthy botanicals which amplifies the flavour profile of a Paloma or Margarita and adds herbal character to a Tom Collins.

Adding a dash to a simple tomato juice or Virgin Bloody Mary adds depth of flavour and imparts citrus-freshness to cucumber or pineapple-based mocktails.

It pairs particularly well with Indian, Thai and Mexican cuisines, highlighting a freshness and providing a zesty, earthy finish.

Flavour Profile

  • Appearance: Pale amber liquid
  • Aroma: Distinctly coriander seeds with toasted hazelnut undertones and hints of earthy citrus
  • Taste: Spicy, white-pepper warmth comes through first with a slight floral hint of fresh coriander and bittersweet notes
  • Finish: Lasting coriander finish with hints of cooling eucalyptus oil and a woody bitterness

From a culinary perspective…

Dashed over hot Batata Harra potatoes stimulates the senses, whereas Bloody Mary Prawns gain a sharp herb and spice hit. Bob’s Coriander Bitters can be added to many sauces, salsas, dips and dressings to add definition and complexity, e.g. a vegan Warm Sweet Potato and Cannellini Bean Salad. On the sweeter side, mix a little into an appealing lemon and coriander shortbread or add to your bread recipes for an interesting herb and spice combination.

Reviews for Bob’s Coriander Bitters

Raised by notes of lemon zest and sustained by a warm character marked by nut, these bitters reveal a pronounced bitterness mixed with a softness subtle to the taste of caramel.

La Maison Du Whisky

Fresh and vibrant with a lively vegetal kick. A tasty bitters that is well worth your time exploring in custom cocktails. There’s a faint touch of Chartruese here that springs to mind.
