Cardamom is one of the principal botanicals used in gin; its complex flavour is both enhancing and inviting.

Green cardamom is the small, green, aromatic seed pod from the plant Elettaria cardamomum, a member of the ginger family. Among the world’s most expensive spices - sometimes called the “Queen of Spices” - it is known for floral, herbal and sweet notes that create a refreshing, uplifting flavour.

Fragrant and versatile, Bob’s Cardamon Bitters uses green cardamom pods to create a complex flavour profile that can brighten lighter spirits such as gin or vodka, complement the natural sweetness of rum or liqueur-based drinks, and add dimension to whisky and bourbon cocktails.

Adding a few drops to an Old Fashioned or an aged-rum Daiquiri will create spicy-citrus complexity, or amplify the botanical notes of a G&T.

For low- or non-alcoholic mocktails, Bob’s Cardamon Bitters can add an extra element to citrus juices, sodas or tonic waters. Alternatively, a dash can bring a spicy essence to lemon tea or enrich hot chocolate when a few drops are added to the whipped cream topping.

Bob’s Cardamon Bitters lends itself to countless culinary creations, both sweet and savoury.

Flavour Profile

  • Appearance: Light amber liquid
  • Aroma: Sweet and spicy scent complemented by a minty, clean, vibrant citrus quality
  • Taste: Slightly sweet with floral woodiness, a gentle peppery spice and bergamot-like high notes
  • Finish: Smoky and earthy tones contrast with hints of pine and lemon eucalyptus leaving a tannic mouthfeel

From a culinary perspective…

Cardamom bitters enrich a Smoky Salsa or an Orange & Balsamic Dressing. Stirred into natural yoghurt it can brighten a curry and bring cosy depth and richness when incorporated into flatbreads. On the sweeter side, it can elevate an Affogato, add a hint of citrus-spice to a Mango Trifle Pot or bring a unique twist to a strawberry compote.

Reviews for Bob’s Cardamon Bitters

Reminiscent of Indian spice-driven cuisine, these are very well done and perfect for use in gin and rum based cocktails. The cardamom flavor is slightly sweet, making them easy to blend into a drink without overwhelming the balance.

Good Spirits News

The robust aroma of cardamon combines well with underlying hints of lemon and eucalyptus and a trace of sweetness offset by a sharp bitterness.
